Mountain Camp is a custom residence defined by a clear architectural framework and a focused material palette. Designed in collaboration with Nick Noyes Architecture and Elizabeth Rose Jackson Interiors, the home is organized as two primary volumes—one dedicated to gathering and shared spaces, and the other to private living.
Dark timber and stone distinguish the exterior forms, while glazed connectors link the volumes and establish a central courtyard. Floor-to-ceiling glazing maintains a consistent relationship to the surrounding landscape and brings natural light deep into the interior.
Material continuity drives the interior. Wide-plank oak flooring is paired with stained wood walls and ceilings, creating a cohesive base throughout. Communal areas are more expressive in finish and furnishing, while private spaces remain intentionally restrained.
The main living areas are designed for use and flexibility, with generous seating arrangements and direct access to adjacent outdoor spaces. The kitchen introduces subtle contrast through painted cabinetry and layered material selections, while secondary spaces incorporate more distinct finishes and detailing.
The residence is organized to prioritize shared living, with bedrooms intentionally simplified and secondary to the primary gathering areas.
The project reflects a structured approach to modern mountain design, balancing architectural clarity with material depth and livability.

During morning yoga on the pool deck, the instructor cued a warrior two pose, and I turned toward the house. Developed by Angstrom Development Group, this project will be situated within The Slope, a larger lifestyle mixed-use community masterplan.
Cradled between rugged peaks and green meadows, Andaz Heber Valley will introduce a refined approach to mountain hospitality, one that prioritizes design and wellbeing from a global perspective over familiar alpine clichés. The hotel will feature 85 guest rooms, alongside a collection of private residences comprised of 62 condominiums and 140 villas, that will have their own amenities along with special privileges at the hotel. The residences will be introduced separately for purchase at a future date.

HEBER CITY — Hyatt Hotels Corporation plans to expand one of its luxury brands into Utah, opening its first mountain-themed hotel.
Andaz Heber Valley is slated to open in January 2029, Hyatt announced on Thursday. It&#8217;ll feature 85 guest rooms within The Slope, a mixed-use development with 140 private villas and 62 condominiums that Angstrom Development Group is building in the area.
While Hyatt officials didn&#8217;t disclose the hotel&#8217;s planned location, the property is near the Provo River and Deer Valley&#8217;s East Village and will serve visitors to the Wasatch Backcountry for its ski resorts and other outdoor activities, such as hiking and mountain biking. Once open, Utah will be the seventh state to have an Andaz hotel, a brand known for &#8220;local surroundings and infused with local culture.&#8221;
The facility will feature &#8220;design and well-being from a global perspective over familiar alpine clichés,&#8221; Hyatt officials said. They added that they seek to &#8220;emphasize local craftsmanship, materiality and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape&#8221; with the property&#8217;s architecture and interiors.

From fresh powder skiing and backcountry exploration to hiking and cycling, Andaz Heber Valley is designed as a four-season destination.
The hotel will feature a restaurant that emphasizes local ingredients, sustainable sourcing and “hyper-seasonal menus.”
The Slope development includes hospitality, residences, dining, retail and outdoor programming. Andaz Heber Valley will operate with its own identity and guest offering founded in the Andaz brand, the group said.

A Jackson Hole home is situated to maximize vistas of the Grand Tetons and the Snake River

Above all else, this home pays homage to its location. After spending years in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the homeowners sprang into action when they found this property, which offers grand views of both the Snake River and the Grand Tetons. “We knew where we wanted to be,” the wife says. “We wanted those views, and we wanted to be on the river—we were drawn to this specific site.”
Architect John Lauman of JLF Architects planned the house around those views. Lauman and his team studied the property and designed the home to maximize views of its sublime landscape. “Planning and drawing are more affordable than realizing you put the house in the wrong place,” he says. The homeowners also collaborated with interior designer Kate Binger, who understands the importance of surrounding location. “When I am working in my hometown of Jackson, there is the constant of our landscape being a massive source of inspiration—and an element to succumb to,” she says.
Like other designs by JLF Architects, this home features rustic finishes. “When we’re done, the idea is that the house has always been there,” Lauman says. In this case, Lauman believes the design depends on the home’s idyllic location. “It doesn’t make a statement on its own,” he says. “It needs its surroundings. It’s kind of symbiotic in that the site informs the house.”
Inside, the homeowners took a more modern approach, adding steel and other contemporary materials. “I wouldn’t classify it as rustic in the interior,” the wife says. The home’s modern finishes complement the reclaimed wood. “The beauty of this rustic wood is its inherently dynamic nature,” Binger says. “It’s earthy, visually warm and plays well with a plethora of other materials.”
The primary bedroom is a compilation of rustic and modern elements. The room pairs barnwood with honed limestone on the fireplace and in the bathroom. The juxtaposition creates balance in a peaceful space, and the art brings everything together. “In the bedroom, we specifically picked artwork with more serene tones,” the wife says. “This space is elevated and calming,” Binger adds.
The heart of the house is the kitchen, which is open to the living and dining area. “Cooking is a family activity that we love to do,” the wife says. “I love to cook, and we have three teenagers who like to cook as well. The island is large enough that we can all work at the same time.”
When the cooking is finished, the family enjoys gathering with friends in the dining room, which is separated from the living room by a double-sided fireplace. “There’s a delineation, but it has an open feel,” the wife says. “It’s nice to play with the fireplace. When you can see through it, that’s pretty cool,” Lauman adds.
The fireplace is not the only dramatic piece in the room. Binger added amazing lighting—composed of 42 individual hand-blown glass pendants hung at different heights. “My goal was to balance the intensity of the stone walls, fireplace and high ceilings,” she says.
That interior blend of rustic and modern works beautifully. But the house is really about what’s outside—magnificent vistas. “The great room is really amazing; it has the sliding doors that we open in summer with pretty great views of the river and the mountains,” the husband says. The wife prefers the view from their bedroom. “When I wake up in the morning, I have a direct view of the Tetons,” she says. “To be honest, it’s hard to get out of bed because of the view from that room.”
STAIRCASE TO HEAVEN 
To take advantage of near-360-degree views of the mountains, river and forest, the architects created an observation platform made of steel and glass. A sculptural spiral staircase leads up from the patio, so that family and visitors have easy access to the observation deck. “We wanted a place we could go and relax and enjoy that view,” the husband says.
The addition of the observation platform was somewhat fortuitous. “Over the husband’s office, we were going to have a flat roof,” architect John Lauman says. “There was quite an opportunity to highlight the amazing views, so we took advantage of the flat roof and converted it into an observation platform.”
JLF and Big D Signature work as one design-build entity. Their association makes it possible to change details during construction. “Our collaboration gives us the opportunity to improve the original design,” Lauman says. In the case of this home, the observation deck responded to the clients’ desire to revel in the awe-inspiring landscape. “When we realized how special a place it was, we really wanted a house with an indoor-outdoor component,” the wife says.

4. Install a pot rack
If you want to add interest to your kitchen ceiling while also making it functional, something like a pot rack is a great choice. Not only does it provide you with ample storage for your pots, but it also creates a striking installation that draws the eye up to the ceiling.
In this kitchen, a wrought iron pot rack has been chosen, which contrasts beautifully with the white hue used on the ceiling. Using only copper pots and pans gives the pot rack a more curated feel, rather than being crammed full with a mismatch of cookware.
It also adds a lot of warmth to the kitchen scheme, where white cabinetry and gray marble countertops have been used, which are typically cooler-toned materials.

Owning Aman: Canyon Equity homes in on über high-end living

Rising out of the sand-colored desertscape in Utah like a luxury-laden mirage, the latest development from Canyon Equity LLC became a tangible reality in December with the debut of Aman Residences, Amangiri, in Canyon Point, Utah.
Showcased are the first of 12 über luxurious homes set across 900 acres of the Colorado Plateau in Canyon Point. The development is proximate to Canyon Equity’s five-star, 34-suite Amangiri, which will serve as a source of amenities and services for residents.
Helmed by CEO Robert Hee, Canyon Equity is the operating arm of Larkspur, Calif.-based private equity firm Canyon Group, and is the owner/developer of the project, which was on the company’s agenda for almost two decades. “The vision to create branded residences at Amangiri is not new; it has been part of the property’s make-up since inception and the opening of the hotel in 2009,” said Hee. “But the ideation underwent different revisions. The market went through different cycles and the resort itself evolved.”
Part of that, he noted, was the successful opening five years ago of a glamping outpost, Camp Sarika by Amangiri, with 10 luxury tented pavilions and common areas, located within a mile of the resort. “The traction of Camp Sarika, Amangiri’s growing reputation and loyal base of guests, as well as a growing interest in branded residences, all led us to feel the time was right to turn our attention back to the development of residences at Amangiri,” said Hee.
The homes, designed by Los Angeles-based Masastudio, mirror the subtly luxe Modernist aesthetic of the hotel, and reflect the surrounding desert landscape. Residences offer four to eight bedrooms on five to 19 acres and include a variety of outdoor spaces and a swimming pool.

Deer Valley on New York Times’ list of travel destinations

What do Bangkok, Winnie-the-Pooh’s England and Deer Valley, Utah, have in common?
Probably nothing, other than they’re on The New York Times’ list of 52 places to go in 2026.
“Our list for the new year features an eclipse, a revolution and a tiger reserve. What’s on yours?” says the Times.
Listed among the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in India, Revolutionary America in the Northeast and the Iceland Eclipse festival is Deer Valley Resort, a luxury ski-only destination in the Wasatch Mountain just outside Park City.
The Times notes Deer Valley underwent one of the biggest ski terrain expansions in snow country in time for the 2025-26 season and is known for its “impeccably groomed runs, great food and longstanding prohibition on snowboarding.”

The tony Utah ski resort accelerated work on a long-awaited expansion along its eastern slopes

As soon as the last skier left Utah’s Deer Valley resort at the end of the season, construction crews moved in to begin work on what resort officials call the largest current expansion of a ski resort in North America. Under a plan marketed by the resort as Expanded Excellence, work that began in 2024 moved into high-gear in the summer as Deer Valley executes plans that will more than double its skiable acreage to 5,726 from the current 2,026 over the next two years.
Deer Valley’s parent company, Colorado-based Alterra, has said the project is the largest they have ever undertaken in one season.
The expansion is taking place east of the existing resort in an area known locally as the Mayflower property, named for the silver mine that once operated there. The expansion has been part of the long-term vision for the resort, says Garrett Lang, senior director of mountain operations for Deer Valley. That vision only became a reality when the resort was purchased by Alterra in 2017. Alterra signed an agreement with New York-based Extell Development to develop and operate new facilities at the resort. Extell holds the long-term leases for the land and is developing the on-mountain facilities with Deer Valley. Daily operations at various facilities will be split between Deer Valley and Extell.
As part of Alterra, Deer Valley joins nearly a dozen other resorts in North America owned by the company, which offers access to all of its properties through its IKON pass.

Fifteen employees from Big-D Signature rolled up their sleeves in service to Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area on the Parkside at Benson-Brown Station job site in Jackson. The group provided approximately 52 hours of volunteer labor in just one day, completing key construction details on the future homes of local workforce families at 445 E. Kelly Ave. 
This marks the second consecutive year that Big-D Signature has partnered with Teton Habitat at Parkside. Last year, volunteers contributed to siding work on another building unit within the project. A second volunteer day is scheduled for Saturday, with hopes for an even larger turnout. 
Big-D has been a sponsor for Teton Habitat’s annual fundraising luncheon for the last three years, and Big-D’s corporate headquarters has selected Habitat as its official nonprofit partner across all offices nationwide in 2025. 
Teton Habitat recognizes that volunteerism is the cornerstone of building affordable housing in Teton County. Team Build volunteer days play an essential role in keeping construction costs low and making Habitat homes truly affordable. 
“I’ve been seeing more groups and sign-ups from people who’ve never volunteered before,” said Jason Bruni, development manager for Teton Habitat. “It’s inspiring to watch businesses and community members alike discover the joy and purpose of working side by side to help our neighbors.”

Talk about staying power. Rustic architecture, which has roots that predate the settlement of the American West, is still very much in demand today. But while current residences reference traditional concepts of the past, a combination of changing lifestyle needs and technological advances has allowed modern rustic architecture to make its own 21st-century statement.
“The first cabins were built out of poverty,” notes Paul Bertelli of JLF Architects. “People would hand hew a log, frame it up and make a shelter. Trees and very unsophisticated masonry—these were the basics of rustic.” Those same simple forms and materials became the building blocks for future designs, but with a twist. Architect Jerry Locati of Locati Architects reflects on the shift: “As industrialization spread, the idea of ‘rustic’ became more symbolic than essential. It was no longer just about survival but about creating a home that felt connected to nature.”
And while our predecessors worked hard to keep the harsh elements at bay, glass manufacturing techniques that allow for windows to be produced in pretty much any shape or size literally let the sun shine in. Gone are the small apertures and dark interiors that characterize traditional rustic. In their place, open floor plans with large expanses of glazing welcome natural light while offering sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. “Modern technology allows us to create large, open spaces with structural integrity that still feel like they belong in the natural world,” says architect Ryan Lee of Forum Phi.

CANYON POINT, Utah (ABC4) — One of the world’s most expensive and most secluded hotels is located right here in southern Utah.
And now, it is offering permanent residences for you to “get away from the everyday” in Utah’s red-rock country.
The residences at Amangiri, a luxury resort located in the secluded desert landscape near the Utah-Arizona border, reportedly offer expansive spaces that embrace the “design-driven” approach from Marwan Al Sayed, the resort’s original architect. The resort’s website said the homes give residents “total tranquility” and immersion into the wilderness and the Aman lifestyle, while keeping a respectful distance from the hotel itself.
Homes will range from four to eight bedrooms on plots of land spanning from five to 19 acres. Al Sayed said each home is designed to be carbon neutral and completely unique from each other.

Nearly 200 people joined the festivities Tuesday, May 20, to explore the fire district's newest facilities.

Firefighters, local leaders and community members gathered at Heber’s new and expanded fire station, the Claude R. and June M. Hicken Fire Station 51.
Guests explored the facilities and cheered as, instead of cutting a ribbon, Fire Chief Eric Hales decoupled two fire hoses.
Hales said the new station, near Wasatch High School on 1200 South, marks a milestone in the fire district’s history.
“It’s especially meaningful to reflect on the fact that, 100 years ago, members of this valley came together to establish the original Heber Valley Fire Department,” he said. “Today, we stand on their shoulders.”
The station was constructed by Big-D Signature, a KPCW financial supporter, and designed by AJC Architects. It more than triples the previous Heber station’s square footage and houses the fire district’s administrative offices.
It also includes dorm rooms for first responders to rest during their 48-hour shifts, a day room with recliners and a kitchen space, and a community room for classes and meetings. One station hallway is adorned with photos from throughout the department’s history.

HEBER CITY — There are things you expect to find in a brand-new fire station: engines that shine, ambulances ready to roll and plenty of space for firefighters to live. The new Wasatch Fire District station in Heber City has all of that and more.

“I was way impressed with this firehouse,” said Assistant Fire Chief Clair Provost.
Provost has been with the Wasatch Fire District for 43 years.
He’s seen stations come and go, but said it’s not the walls that impress him the most, it’s the roots growing within them.
“It is awesome to be able to work with family,” he said with pride.
Provost has two sons serving in the department.
Jason has been in the department for 25 years. Jake is going on nine.
“There’s something special here, a camaraderie that just happens,” said Jason Provost. “We grew up going to help clean an ambulance or do different things in the community.”
What started as chores with dad turned into careers.
“We watched Dad participate in it all growing up, and I really can’t remember a time where I wasn’t interested in fire engines and ambulances,” said Jake Provost with a smile. “I am so proud of my dad.”
The Provosts are just one of several family trees rooted in this district.
“We have so many members of our district that are family,” said Wasatch Fire District Chief Eric Hales.
A public open house was held Tuesday evening at the new station at 251 East 1200 South in Heber to welcome residents and give tours of the fire house.
The station was built in response to rapid growth in the area.
“Wasatch County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state,” said Hales. “We are averaging about 15 calls a day right now.”
Plans are already in the works to build four more fire stations in the county in the next decade.
But what really makes the department work isn’t just what’s new, it’s what has been here all along.
“It is a very proud moment as a father to watch your sons, as they go and improve,” said Clair Provost. “And to me, service is what it’s all about in life. That’s important to me.”

Hearth and Hill, Hill’s Kitchen centrally located in walkable Salt Lake City neighborhood

After years of planning, perseverance and a few unexpected setbacks, Hill Top Hospitality has opened new Hearth and Hill and Hill’s Kitchen restaurants in Salt Lake City’s Sugar House neighborhood, launching both shops just weeks apart.
“From day one when we first opened Hearth and Hill Park City, shortly after that, our goal was to grow and have scale as a company,” said Brooks Kirchheimer who co-owns the restaurant group with his father.
But, like many stories with Hill Top Hospitality’s endeavors, the road to the opening in Sugar House wasn’t easy.
The plan was to open the two restaurants two years early, but the building in Sugar House burned down in October 2022, said Kirchheimer.
“I’ll never forget that night I was up till 3:30 in the morning like, ‘What should I do?’” he said.
Obviously, that caused major delays, and while Kichheimer and his father, co-founder of Hill Top, had the opportunity to walk away from that lease, they decided to stick with their landlord partners through the rebuild.
“Zero hesitation, my dad and I both said nope. We’re in it to win it,” he said.
Kirchheimer said that a positive attitude has always been a strength of their brand.
“You can — I say this because I have two young kids — throw a temper tantrum and moan about it and be upset, which is all going to make the matter worse. Or, you say, ‘All right, I’m going to take this head on, and we’re going to find a solution,’” he said.
It’s a philosophy that’s helped Hill Top weather everything from the fire in Sugar House, to car crashes and flooding at their Park City locations. So having a solid team on the same page makes all the difference, Kirchheimer said. After the fire, it was their dream to sit down in the newly rebuilt restaurants and share a meal, finally realized when Hearth and Hill opened in March. The original plan was just to open Hearth and Hill, but with more time and a request from the landlords, they decided to move in a Hill’s Kitchen, too.

Fans of Urban Hill, Hill Top Hospitality group’s restaurant in the Post District at 500 South and 300 West, will find the look of Hearth and Hill familiar, since the same interior architects designed both spaces.
And the contemporary American menu will include some Hearth and Hill favorites as well as dishes that Kirchheimer said will challenge the palate.
“We believe that American cuisine these days is more robust than it ever has been,” Kirchheimer said. “It includes so many different types of items that it didn’t include 10, 20, 30 years ago.”

Situated at 10,550 feet at Alta Ski Resort, this 600-square-foot, two-story ski patrol hut provides Alta’s ski patrol team with a critical vantage point over the Sugar Bowl area, enhancing safety for skiers in a previously difficult-to-monitor location.

The iconic Amangiri luxury resort is offering residences priced from $5 million to $12.5 million for the lot alone.

In southern Utah, near Arizona’s border, are 900 acres of private land within a series of undulating valleys out of which crop otherworldly rock formations. The light is dramatic. The silence is powerful.
Nearby communities include Big Water, Utah, about 8 miles northwest with a population of about 500, and Page, Ariz., the gateway to Lake Powell, about 16 miles southeast with a population of 7,320, according to census data.
“You may as well be on a deserted island,” says Jack Ezon, founder and managing partner of luxury travel advisory Embark Beyond.
Here, emerging from the stark desert landscape and with a focal point being a 165 million-year-old boulder, is the Aman luxury resort Amangiri, which opened in 2009. It blends access to the rugged outdoors with high-touch hospitality. A Who’s Who of famous faces have posted their stays on Instagram, from Miley Cyrus to Ivanka Trump. Starting at $4,200 per night, Amangiri has 34 guest suites and 10 tented pavilions at Camp Sarika by Amangiri, which opened in 2020.
Now, just about 15 years after the resort opened, you can live here: Amangiri is building 12 residences, with asking prices ranging from $5 million to $12.5 million for the lots alone. So far one residence has a buyer and is currently under construction; several lots are under contract.
There have been reports of Amangiri residences before. “Residences have always been part of the vision for the resort,” says Robert Hee, the CEO of Canyon Equity LLC, Amangiri’s developer. “It’s been a matter of evolving the concept to where we are satisfied.”
In the U.S., there are roughly 55,000 branded residence units—or privately owned residences affiliated with a brand, most often a hotel—across about 320 branded residence developments, according to Savills, a global real-estate firm. Currently, about 40% of branded residences in the U.S. are in resort locations.
“We aren’t thinking about our project in terms of jumping on a bandwagon,” Hee says. “This is the life cycle of our own property.”
Architects and interior designers Marwan Al Sayed and Mies Anderson, co-founders and principals at Los Angeles-based Masastudio, designed the homes, a process that took roughly six years. They were also both on the team that designed the resort, which took about eight years.

Richard Whitney is the vice president of local construction company Big D Signature. It was brought in by the state to repair damage caused by the collapse. 
 
“It was basically a complete collapse for about a third of the building,” Whitney said.

Beyond that, the electric and gas lines were shot, and other parts of the roof were stretched and ripped. Whitney said the response from the Park City Fire District helped stop water flowing throughout the building, which occurred due to a sprinkler being damaged. He said the fire district likely saved a lot of merchandise.
First, contractors worked to stabilize the roof to ensure it wouldn’t completely collapse. That included clearing what Whitney said was over three feet of dense snow.
“We had people working on that, 16-hour days, all day Saturday and Sunday,” Whitney said.
The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system had to be completely replaced as well.
“We had to redo the gas lines,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We had to redo the fire lines. We had to remove all the electrical panels, rewire everything.
&#8220;We had probably in the area of anywhere between 40 and 50 men there.”
After that, employees of the Department of Beverage Services were able to come in to clean and organize the inventory. A DABS spokesperson said licensees can start picking up products at the store on Monday.
As a warehouse store, it’s not open to the general public and is only for restaurants and bars with liquor licenses.
While it’s able to open, Whitney said there’s still more work to be done.
“We haven’t totally repaired it yet, we’ve stabilized it,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;The collapsed area — we’ve completely isolated it so they can open back up again.”
Whitney thanked partners and contractors for helping with repairs.

For those of you who have seen us driving from trailhead to trailhead, you’ve probably noticed your donations aren’t going towards the latest vehicles. Our ’98 Toyota is a great example, providing 24 years of hard service and not winning any beauty contests.
With that context, it’s easy to imagine our excitement when Big-D Signature donated two new-used trucks from their fleet to serve our mission. Thanks to their generosity, the money and time that would have gone into sourcing trucks will now go directly towards building, maintaining and protecting the trails we love!

Mountain Trails Truck Donation

The exquisite 4-bedroom, 8-bathroom estate is located at 3853 E Rockport Ridge Road in Park City. Big-D Companies Joins Forces with Colorado Based CFC Construction

Above all else, this home pays homage to its location. After spending years in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, the homeowners sprang into action when they found this property, which offers grand views of both the Snake River and the Grand Tetons. “We knew where we wanted to be,” the wife says. “We wanted those views, and we wanted to be on the river—we were drawn to this specific site.”

Architect John Lauman of JLF Architects planned the house around those views. Lauman and his team studied the property and designed the home to maximize views of its sublime landscape. “Planning and drawing are more affordable than realizing you put the house in the wrong place,” he says. The homeowners also collaborated with interior designer Kate Binger, who understands the importance of surrounding location. “When I am working in my hometown of Jackson, there is the constant of our landscape being a massive source of inspiration—and an element to succumb to,” she says.
Like other designs by JLF Architects, this home features rustic finishes. “When we’re done, the idea is that the house has always been there,” Lauman says. In this case, Lauman believes the design depends on the home’s idyllic location. “It doesn’t make a statement on its own,” he says. “It needs its surroundings. It’s kind of symbiotic in that the site informs the house.”
Inside, the homeowners took a more modern approach, adding steel and other contemporary materials. “I wouldn’t classify it as rustic in the interior,” the wife says. The home’s modern finishes complement the reclaimed wood. “The beauty of this rustic wood is its inherently dynamic nature,” Binger says. “It’s earthy, visually warm and plays well with a plethora of other materials.”
The primary bedroom is a compilation of rustic and modern elements. The room pairs barnwood with honed limestone on the fireplace and in the bathroom. The juxtaposition creates balance in a peaceful space, and the art brings everything together. “In the bedroom, we specifically picked artwork with more serene tones,” the wife says. “This space is elevated and calming,” Binger adds.

Excited to announce the official start of construction by Big-D Signature for the National Ability Centers' new 9,400 sqft McGrath Family Mountain Center at the base of Park City Mountain, a vail resort. The groundbreaking celebration is the first step to building the nonprofit’s long-awaited adaptive ski-in ski-out facility!

PARK CITY, Utah (ABC4) – Construction of a $6.5 million National Ability Center (NAC) has officially begun after years of planning, preconstruction, and design efforts.
The “Mcgrath Family Mountain Center” is located at the base of Park City Mountain, a Vail Resort, located in Park City, Utah. As part of the non-profit organization NAC, it will reportedly provide “world-class adaptive recreation and outdoor adventures” to individuals and families of differing abilities, including military veterans.
The center hosted a groundbreaking celebration at the construction site of the project on Tuesday, which included partners and community members alike.
“We are excited that after four years of working with the National Ability Center, Architectural Nexus, Vail Resorts and Park City Mountain this project is coming to fruition,” said Michael Kerby, Big-D Signature President. “The ‘temporary’ mountain center put in place over 20 years ago is long overdue for replacement. This new facility will positively impact the adaptive community both logistically and operationally.”
The facility, which is set to be 9,400 square feet, will be ski-in, ski-out, and serve as a “home base” for the organization’s ski and snowboard programs.
The ability to serve significantly more people with disabilities in NAC’s ski and snowboard programs. 
Adequate indoor space to properly fit participants in mono and bi-skis. Once fitted, participants will slide on an artificial surface directly to the snow! 
Storage space for specialized adaptive ski equipment. 
Locker rooms for instructors as well as separate locker rooms for adaptive competitive athletes. 
Reception area, instructor kitchen, office, uniform storage room with laundry facilities, specialized sensory room for calming and multi-purpose rooms for training and education. 
Restroom facilities on-site for NAC participants and their families: a major upgrade from the current reliance on public restrooms, which are a short walk from the existing center.
“This permanent adaptive sports home will be a beacon showcasing the opportunities for those with all abilities to ski, snowboard and mountain bike at Park City Mountain Resort,” said Jeffrey Tuft, Project Designer for Architectural Nexus.
Construction on the McGrath Family Mountain Center is anticipated to be complete by summer 2023.
