Built with Nature in Mind

The Preserve provides Snyderville Basin with groundwater recharge, houses a kiosk with a breathtaking view and offers an area for outdoor environmental education. Swaner Nature Preserve was a land trust and will therefore will be preserved in perpetuity for generations to come.

The Swaner EcoCenter was designed to achieve the coveted LEED Platinum certification, the highest standard set by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). An astounding 61 points were submitted and 61 points were received. LEED promotes five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water conservation, energy efficiency, materials selections and indoor environmental quality.

Eco-Friendly from Top to Bottom

Low-flow and waterless plumbing fixtures, drought-tolerant landscaping and a year-round rooftop water collection and storage system contribute to a 90 percent water savings. Smart lighting and highly efficient cooling, insulation and glass reduce our energy needs by 54 percent compared to baseline standards. Solar collection panels on the roof capture the sun’s energy to heat water, provide radiant heat, melt snow and generate electricity onsite. It is an award-winning showcase for sustainable building practices on a national scale; a stage for local, national and global environmental messages and a place that inspires and empowers all who visit.
